A: No! Not only is chiropractic care less expensive, people tend to get better more quickly than they would in a DO, medic, or Physical Therapist’s office. Here are a couple stand-out points from research.

  • Comparative Analysis of Individuals With and Without Chiropractic Coverage Patient Characteristics, Utilization, and Costs Legorreta AP, Metz RD, Nelson CF, Ray S, Chernicoff HO, DiNubile NA. Comparative Analysis of Individuals With and Without Chiropractic CoveragePatient Characteristics, Utilization, and Costs. Arch Intern Med. 2004;164(18):1985-1992. doi:10.1001/archinte.164.18.1985
  • Access to managed chiropractic care may reduce overall health care expenditures through several effects, including (1) positive risk selection; (2) substitution of chiropractic for traditional medical care, particularly for spine conditions; (3) more conservative, less invasive treatment profiles; and (4) lower health service costs associated with managed chiropractic care. Systematic access to managed chiropractic care not only may prove to be clinically beneficial but also may reduce overall health care costs.

  • Cost effectiveness of physiotherapy, manual therapy, and general practitioner care for neck pain: economic evaluation alongside a randomised controlled trial BMJ 2003; 326 doi: https://doi.org/10.1136/bmj.326.7395.911 (Published 26 April 2003)Cite this as: BMJ 2003;326:911
  • “After seven and 26 weeks, they found significant improvements in recovery rates in the manual therapy group compared to the other 2 groups. For example, at week seven, 68% of the manual therapy group had recovered from their neck pain vs. 51% in the physical therapy group and 36% in the medical care group.”

A: Unless you just had direct trauma to the area of concern or are recovering from an intense exercise session your muscle ache is most likely a secondary problem. Remember, nerves control muscles. Your muscles cannot control themselves. When your spine lacks the proper structure, nerves tell your muscles to compensate and tighten up in order to stabilize your body and to guard from movements that would further injure your spinal joints and/or nerves. If you are just sore from a workout session or you did have a trauma, we offer massage therapy to help prevent inflammation, increase your range of motion, and reduce any muscle tension you may have!

A: Chiropractic care is in fact the most efficient and cost effective way to remedy neck pain, headaches, back pain, and other musculoskeletal type issues. Today, about 80% of the population will suffer from back pain at some point in their life. Detecting a spinal problem before it starts to hurt pays dividends in the future especially with younger populations like children and infants.

Early detection and care will:

  • Reduce future wear and tear of the spine and other joints
  • Reduce overall medical costs
  • Improve and maintain range of motion
  • Increase brain function
  • Allow for better growth and development of the body and nervous system
  • Reduce colic, ear infections, and constipation in children and infants
  • Maintain a higher level of health through a child’s formative years and instill the importance of active healthcare throughout their life

A: Actually just the opposite! Chiropractic care restores motion into your joints whether it be spine or any other joint in your body. This joint movement restoration breaks up scar tissue and adhesion around the joint and does not allow calcium to deposit and solidify. It is the solidification of the scar tissue that becomes a “bone spur.” Bone spurs are osteoarthritis and contrary to popular belief this is NOT hereditary but brought on by improper spinal structure (posture) and movement patterns. Osteoarthritis or spinal degeneration can never be reversed but the joint can be maintained and kept from getting worse.

A: Todays medical model has trained us to seek care only in times of pain. In many cases, that problem has been brewing for some time and finally you begin to take notice only when the problem has gone too far. Use a tooth cavity or a heart attack as examples. Your spine is incredibly similar in that fashion. As our bodies accumulate stresses throughout each day we begin to compensate for our aches and pains by assuming a posture that makes us feel better and they magically go away- so we think. In a compensated state our bodies are breaking down, but by maintaining a proper posture and spinal alignment we allow our bodies to work more efficiently. Our nervous system can properly relay messages to the rest of the body, we reduce the breakdown of all bodily joints, and because of that we become overall healthier people. Also keep in mind, a person who catches a spinal problem early on needs fewer adjustments in the majority of cases.

For those who have had pain resolve due to chiropractic care the idea is to maintain the results you have put fourth work, time, and effort to achieve. Periodic visits before you start hurting again will maintain the more healthful state you are in and ensure you do not fall back into the same issues you began care with.
